VACAVILLE — Neil Diamond’s “Song Sung Blue” is about to get a new hue – green.

Bob Green is bringing the singer-songwriter’s hits to Fuso Italian Restaurant for a series of cabaret-style dinner shows all four Sundays in June. Green and Diamond launched their musical careers about the same time.

“I have been singing Neil Diamond as long as Neil Diamond has,” Green said.

He promises the 90-minutes Fuso shows will include every Diamond hit . . . and more. Green is also very knowledgeable about all things Diamond such as “Up on the Roof: Songs from the Brill Building.”

The 16 tunes, including “Love Potion No. 9” and “Spanish Harlem,” were all penned by other artists. Green puts them in a medley for the discerning Diamond fan.

Green began performing music as a member of the United States Coast Guard. When the British invasion hit, he covered the tunes with Jolly Green & The Giants. Naturally, they sang The Kingsmen’s “Jolly Green Giant” song. The Kingsmen were best known for their hit “Louie Louie.”

Next up was Wolfgang Green & The Infections. The moniker garnered a lot of attention, Green said.

Music was on every corner and Green thought it was the perfect job – no heavy lifting and a lot of chicks.

The more he listed to Diamond, the more Green felt that was the ideal place in his vocal range. He’s fine-tuned it over the years to sound like Diamond, he said.

“I do the music people want to hear live like they heard it on the radio,” he said.

Green also worked as a disc jockey and did voiceover work.

He and his wife, Emma, moved to Vacaville about 20 years ago. Green had done other Diamond shows in Vacaville, including one in 2015.

A new venue was needed and Green approached the owner of Fuso to pitch the intimate concerts.

“The closeness for me as a performer is really cool,” Green said of the setting.

He’s got a shiny red jacket he may or may not wear. It was purchased in Las Vegas.

Green has seen Diamond three times. There’s a chance to make it four when Diamond stops in Sacramento on Aug. 2.

“I’m not going to see him,” Green said, with a chuckle. “He’s not coming to see me.”
